Disguises the pig’s natural scent thereby helping to prevent ranking fights between animal groups during mixing at lairage, in the farm or during transport.
Stress in pigs at lairage and changes in quality parameters at slaughter
Stress in Lairage: Studies conducted in Spain* and the UK** have indicated that pigs when stressed by being kept in lairage for long periods of time, or in high temperatures, have elevated levels of cortisol which results in Pale Soft Exudate (PSE) in susceptible pigs at slaughter.
Stress in Transport: Studies concerning the transport of mixed groups of entire males*** also showed the damage that occurs to
carcasses due to ranking fights in transport.
